About Us

Through its specialist licensees, CORGI now offers a range of services and professional products to the plumbing and heating trades, including Technical, Boiler Technology, Technical paperwork and manuals, Tools and Workwear, Controls, HomePlan, Vans, and CORGI Trade — an online platform linking installers with consumers.

CORGI Services is here to add value to its licensees, strengthening, protecting and growing the CORGI brand and ensuring it stays relevant in a rapidly changing market.

CORGI is a not-for-profit organisation, with any profits donated to the Carbon Monoxide Research Trust (CORT) to fund research into the harmful effects of Carbon Monoxide.

1968

Ronan Point Disaster

Ronan Point Disaster — A gas explosion claimed 5 lives and injured 17.

1970

CORGI founded

Confederation (now Council) of Registered Gas Installers (CORGI) founded as a direct result of the disaster. Registration was initially voluntary.

1991

CORGI Registration is law

CORGI Registration becomes mandatory by law.

1996

CORGI Services founded

CORGI Services formed in response to heating industry needs, offering specialist services to the trade and consumers.

2005

CORGI Trust

CORGI set up the CORGI Trust, with all profits from the commercial side donated to the charitable trust.

2006

Govt. Review of Gas Safety

Government instigated a review of gas safety, highlighting issues with the then-current scheme.

2009

Gas Safe Register

Gas Safe Register replaced CORGI as the gas registration body in Great Britain and Isle of Man (1 April 2009) and Northern Ireland and Guernsey (1 April 2010).

2010 - 2022

The CORGI Family Grows

2010 - CORGI Technical, CORGI Controls and CORGI Direct join the CORGI family.
2016 - CORGI HomePlan and CORGI HomeHeat join the CORGI family.
2017 - CORGI Fenestration joins the CORGI family.
2022 - CORGI Business Community joins the CORGI family.

CORGI Services Limited is the fund-raising arm of The CO Research Trust — a registered charity focusing on research into Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

The Future

The UK government has committed to reducing carbon emissions to net zero by 2050. As part of this, the government's Heat and Buildings Strategy tackles emissions from homes and businesses, and phasing out natural gas boilers is a vital part of that strategy.

From 2025, building new homes is subject to extremely tough carbon targets, which means it won't be practical for them to have gas boilers installed. However, this does not mean existing gas boilers cannot still be used or replaced in the future.

Low-carbon alternatives to natural gas include Air Source Heat Pumps, Hydrogen Gas Boilers and Solar Thermal Panels. CORGI is committed to supporting a low-carbon future, which sits very well with its vision of being trusted to bring comfort, safety and security to the nation's homes.

The Carbon Monoxide Research Trust (CORT)

The Carbon Monoxide Research Trust is the owner of the CORGI Brand. It is a registered charity established in 2005 to reduce the incidents of death and serious injury from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

Formerly known as The Gas Safety Trust, it became the UK's leading gas safety research charity, with the key objectives of improving gas and fossil fuel safety. Their vision is a world where people are not exposed to carbon monoxide.

Since 2013 the Trust has provided funding to a wide range of academic bodies, statutory organisations, charities, voluntary groups, social housing associations, local authorities, and others. To date, the Trust has invested almost £3 million in research projects and is committed to investing a further £1.5 million in the next five years.

CORGI Services Ltd is the charity's fund-raising arm and donates its profits to the CO Research Trust, enabling them to carry out this vital work.
